In our search for the ultimate bike bus we are already a lot wiser! What we now know is that with money a whole lot is possible ;). We want to spend as much money as possible on our trips and bicycles and not on the bus! The bus is a tool and not the hobby …

Volkswagen t5 bus rijdt op de posbank met een daktent

Convert bus to camper is still an option! In October we are going to Switzerland with a big Tonke Camper (volkswagen T6 based), we can also experience how that works for us. Recently we have also come into contact with Basta Bikes, a beautiful store in Huissen (holland) and they have an “old” Volkswagen T5 bus completely wrapped and equipped with a roof tent. Looks very cool, so that requires testing!

Last week we went to the posbank (regional Park) to check out the concept, with all the stuff to camp for a night. There are many types and sizes of roof tents. Hanneke and Daan have opted for a model that opens really fast, this is the 130 cm version but there is also a 150 cm version. Check DAKTENT.NL for more information about the options and prices.

What roof tent you choose and how cozy it may be, the concept is genius! In the back of the bus they have a bracket of Fix Fork mounted so you can place the bikes easily and quickly. Once at the parking place, I think I was finished with everything within 5 minutes, roof tent was set up, coffee was simmering and the chairs are outside to enjoy the setting sun! We have not slept there (not allowed at this park) so we could also test how quickly you would be ready in the morning to drive to the next trail or bike park: D

Bikes back in, fold the tent, chairs and the rest of the mess back in the bus and go! All in less than 15 minutes.
