a sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated particularly with looking down from a great height, or caused by disease affecting the inner ear or the vestibular nerve; giddiness.
And this is the name of the second trail of today … that starts well! 😉 Bikepark Verbier is of course known to many of you because you have been there or have already read about it. The Vertigo trail is one of the enduro black lines in Verbier that runs from La Chaux (2,183 m) via Le Mintset (1,957 m) to Lourtier (1,076 m) in a short distance. Something with big steps, quickly home.
The trail is actually divided into two parts. Immediately at the start you have to conquer a considerable technical trail with boulders, rocks, streams and a climb. After this “test” of 1.6 km you will come to the start of the real work. If this was “enough”, turn right and continue to the Comfort Comfort zone. Also a very cool trail and really challenging, but just a little easier to drive (check trail review Comfort Zone).
Okay, you’re still here, so we’re ready for the real thing! From Le Mintset the trail goes down, down considerably! With many switchbacks, sometimes gravel, large boulders and abysses !! REAL GROUNDS along the trail. If you do an OTB on a number of points (ed. Over the bar), just call home in your flight down, because that is not going to end well. Anyway, just keep looking where you want to go and stay on the bike. Don’t underestimate it !! If you think it’s too much, then get off and walk a few meters and catch your breath at the abyss … ..and yes, it will probably make you dizzy. Do you remember?? The name of the trail was Vertigo!
The next part is perhaps even more challenging. Not only do you come up a few times on a precipice, but the number of switchbacks is also increasing and the steepness and tightness are also increasing. But yes, you wanted to descend nearly 1,000 meters in a distance of just over 3km and then you have to go down;) and rap too !! A nice long single track follows, short turns and a nice fast finish at the end of the trail ……. Two more switchbacks and Lourtier alive and well! What a descent! What a kick !! This is really my favorite trail in Verbier !! Only for expert riders and certainly not the first or last (never a last trail) of the day!
As an extra challenge and just to see if it was possible, I drove the trail non-stop! Okay, only have to stop for a hiker and for two switchbacks who didn’t want to cooperate;)
Do you have less patience? …. from 3:36 the second part begins, the actual descent.
