You could say that I still “had to settle an account” with Slovenia. That sounds negative, but no: it is about the missed trails! Last year we had to let the last day go for private reasons. Bikegalaxy – Mark Westmaas – promised us we were going to miss something! Too bad, we will do that later.
Now the opportunity arose that I could briefly come to Slovenia to actually settle the bill: D
So I hopped on the train at 6 o’clock in the morning and yes, somewhere around noon I was in the heart of Ljubljana. Mark flew in, fixed a sandwich, and we went straight to the bike rental where a nice KTM 150mm 29er was waiting for me.
Literally in Ljubljana is a mountain (hill) where a group of trail shapers is active. There is very active outdoor sport at this place; walkers, runners and therefore a lot of mountain bikers. Some pushed up and down their downhill trough in this extremely warm April day, others kicked up their enduro troughs. It is a forgiving climb. Just short enough, but long enough to make a nice descent.
Every descent is really pure fun! Tabletops everywhere and perfectly berms. The first descent is full of flow, a bit too “bike park” for me. I like natural trails more and may have added some flow. Now I don’t want to be the sour plum again, this is pure fun anyway! Descent two is actually the same in design but with many more roots and “bumps”. Check! We want that: D Descent three, even more natural. One thing I knew for sure: Bikegalaxy didn’t lie … This is cool!
The final descent is completely natural. Mark and I came down the descent with such a grin that we just have to look at each other; we are going again! Full of nice drops, mini ridgelines, verges, thick rootpacks and here and there some “ohh” and “ahhh” moments. AWESOME !! After 3 times doing this “last descent” time to go to the apartment. Eat, sleep and prepare for tomorrow.
Today we drive to the border with Italy at Trieste on the sea. According to Mark, there is again a lot of beautiful things waiting for us! If we would ride everything we would do a good 35 kilometers with over 1500 meters of altitude. I have have to leave on time so I hope we can do all get this.
We slowly build up the day with the longest climb … Oh, in terms of trail! Nice flow down and you will also be surprised with the level of maintenance, without detracting from the roughness of the surface, everything is well maintained. Bowl-turn here and there to keep the speed nice, and we fly down. Hoppa, time to traverse the valley and enter Italy. This morning will only get better. We call each other regularly. Mark!!! Back!!! We do this drop again: D
Without going through every trail in detail, I can say that it is getting more epic and steeper! Our last descent (officially the one-last) of today provides quite a few scary moments. It is clear, right from the start. The first section is steep with several step-offs without an overview … Okay, breathe out and just ride, walk back and ride again. With this victory in I continued through nicely and except for one section (off-camber gravel slippery with abyss) could drive everything.
Yes you can find everything here! There is a lot of flow for the novice mountain biker and there is plenty of challenge for the experienced enduro rider. Satisfied, we roll back to the car, back to reality: Work.
Mark and Bikegalaxy thanks for arranging everything! for more info firstname.lastname@example.org
